What We Do - Environmental Conservation & Greenspace

“To maintain high quality environmental management and conservation at specific sites”

Over the years, the Trust has worked in partnership with other organisations to create green spaces within rural and urban environments to be enjoyed by all. RFT has also restored former quarries within the Rockingham Forest and the wider area and managed them in such a way so as to achieve their full potential in terms of conservation value, whilst balancing the recreational needs of people.

The Trust manages Stanwick Lakes (in partnership with East Northamptonshire Council) which is a 750 acre former sand and gravel quarry which has been transformed into a nature reserve and countryside attraction. It is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), a Special Protection Area (SPA) and a wetland of international importance. Find out more about Stanwick Lakes.
