  Exploring Local Villages

Rockingham Forest Trust are offering 10 villages the opportunity to take a closer look at their surroundings and the history of their buildings. The first event will take place on Wednesday 2nd April in Geddington. The Trust will be taking a group on an exploration of St Mary Magdalene church; its’ history, architecture and other features of interest. The following week there will be a second event in Geddington, on Wednesday 9th April, when the Trust will lead a walk around the village to look at buildings and other structures that have local heritage value and interest but which are not listed.

Anyone from Geddington, Newton , Warkton, Weekley, Grafton Underwood, Twywell, the Oakleys or the Cranfords is invited to come along to either or both of the mornings. People who attend the events from these surrounding areas will then be able to use the same techniques to explore their own villages - or they can ask the Trust to help them do this. The two events are part of the Trust’s ‘People of the Forest’ project which is supported through the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Both events will start at the village hall at 10.00am and will take around 2 hours. Numbers are limited for both events and places must be booked in advance.  For further information or to book a place please call the Trust on 01832 274278 and speak to Peter or Stuart.

More events are being planned – watch this space for details.
